Rest In Paradise Colonel Abrams

R.I.P. #ColonelAbrams 1949-2016 #Singer #Songwriter #Musician #Dance & #HouseMusicPioneer On the evening of this past Thanksgiving 2016, #Dance and #HouseMusic pioneer vocalist #ColonelAbrams succombed to longstanding complications from #diabetes at 67 years old. He had been ill and suffering for some time now and even had resorted to living homelessly. Earlier this year in 2016, #WBLS 107.5 FM organized a charity event in support of his financial woes. Abrams had dabbled with being in small bands here & there as early as 1976 but eventually burst full fledged onto the music scene in 1984 with one of #HouseMusic’s first real firestarters… an upbeat-driven #Dance classic with #TeddyPendergrass-like vocals titled “Music Is The Answer.” It was released on the #NewYork independent label #StreetwiseRecords (@streetwiserecords) and was produced by #WinstonJones. Shortly after that, he developed a string of underground #demo classics produced by #TimmyRegisford & #BoydJarvis such as “(You Got Me) Runnin” & “Release The Tension.” These unreleased demo versions went on to become the biggest of hits on the dancefloor of #ParadiseGarage in the mid-80’s, thanks to the also now deceased DJ #LarryLevan. Finally in 1986 on #MCARecords, he released the Dance smash “Trapped” which topped the charts at #1 and followed it with an even stronger 2nd single “I’m Not Gonna Let” which also enjoyed #1 success. In 1987, he released a 2nd album for MCA and went on to record for various labels including #StrictlyRhythm and his very own #ColonelRecords but never achieved quite similar success as those 1st two singles on MCA. The #Detroit-born Colonel Abrams will always be remembered as one of the greatest voices that helped to singlehandedly propel the genre of #HouseMusic. May he Rest In Peace. EMB
